The
15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) started with a bang, with Royal
Challengers Bangalore (RCB) becoming the first side to post a 200 + total on
the board against Punjab Kings. On Sunday, in the second match of the season’s first doubleheader,
RCB have post 205 for 2 in 20 overs. Captain Faf du Plessis, opening the innings,
slammed 88 off 57 balls, while Virat Kohli scored 41 off 29 balls.

Earlier
on the day, Delhi Capitals registered a thrilling win over Mumbai Indians to
begin their campaign in IPL 2022. As the ongoing seasons gets underway in
India, former RCB captain Kohli named two cricketers of the Bengaluru side who are going to
have a great season. Kohli labelled one of them, “breakthrough season
potential”.

Kohli
was all praise for Sri Lanka pacer Wanindu Hasaranga and the batter praised his
skills.

“I
am particularly excited about Wanindu, I think he is someone who could really
come into the zone. He has the skills to have a great season, a really
consistent season”, he said.

Hasaranga
was part of the RCB squad last season well. However, he was released before the
mega auction by the Bengaluru side. In the mega auction, RCB bought him back
for a staggering Rs 10.75 crore. Last year, he played two matches but failed to
impress.

Kohli
also praised 22-year-old Anuj Rawat. The uncapped wicketkeeper-batter was
bought by RCB for a whopping Rs 3.4 crore during the mega auction. Last season,
Rawat represented Rajasthan Royals (RR).

“Anuj
is another one who is a very exciting talent. (He is) a breakthrough season
potential. These are the names that I look at”, Kohli said.

Kohli
led RCB from 2013 and 2021. After last season’s forgetful outing, Kohli stepped
down as the captain of the side. He is now playing as a specialist batter for
the team under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis.
