Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on
Sunday wore a green jersey during their IPL 2022 match against SunRisers
Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium. Wearing the green jersey in one of
their matches is a ritual RCB follows every year. During the SRH game, the
whole squad and support staff will sport the new kits.

But why does RCB wear a green jersey? RCB has been wearing green jerseys since 2011 after launching the “Go Green” initiative. The initiative became popular as did the RCB’s green jersey. All the players and
support staff will sport the new kits in a bid to promote awareness about
keeping the earth clean and green. The initiative is about environment
conservation and planting trees. Global warming is one of the issues which the
world is dealing with and the situation could be worse in the coming years.
Through the initiative, RCB also spread awareness about recycling.

RCB promoted the idea of “Reduce,
Recycle and Reuse – the three important steps to control pollution. RCB’s green
jerseys are made from recycled plastic.

“Waste segregation makes recycling
of waste simple. To raise awareness on recycling, the RCB team wears green
jerseys made of recycled plastic. The jersey is the team’s promise to #GoGreen
and their way of stepping up to save the planet,” the franchise had
tweeted in 2019.

In the 2016 IPL, when RCB reached the final
under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, the players had reached the ground on cycles
before their match against Gujarat Lions. The team wore the green jersey. The
franchise had arranged CNG autorickshaws for the fans. Traditionally, the RCB
skipper also gifts a plant to his counterpart but that might happen this year.

RCB are currently fourth on the points
table with 12 points in 11 matches. They won six matches and lost five. When
they will take on SRH, Faf du Plessis-led RCB will look for a win to strengthen
their position on the points table.
