One more loss and the Chennai Super Kings will be eliminated from IPL 2022. For MS Dhoni and co, only way to keep their playoff hopes alive is by winning every game. They will take on the Mumbai Indians, in what is referred to as the El Classico of IPL, at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday.

CSK will be eliminated if they lose to Mumbai Indians. They are placed ninth on the IPL 2022 points table with four wins and seven losses in 11 games. A win in the El Classico will only make sure they are not eliminated on the day, the defending champions’ qualification still depends on other teams’ results.

Chennai come to this match riding on a 91-run win over the Delhi Captails. Openers Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad are in good form. The bowlers are doing well. But the only problem for Dhoni’s men is that star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2022 with injury.

The Mumbai Indian, on the other hand, have already been eliminated. Rohit Sharma and co are last on the IPL 2022 points table with two wins in 11 matches. They come to the game after suffering a 52-run loss vs the Kolkata Knight Riders.

With Suryakumar Yadav ruled out, the likes of Tilak Varma, Tim David, Ramandeep Singh and Kieron Pollard, who has been a failure, will need to take greater responsibility.
