Jack White married his long-time girlfriend Olivia Jean minutes after proposing to her on stage during a concert in his hometown of Detroit.
According to the Detroit report, he brought his girlfriend on stage at the Masonic Temple for a duet of White Stripes’ 2001 hit “Hotel Yorba.” White introduced her to the crowd as his girlfriend and told her that he has a question for her.
White asked “Will you marry me?” presenting a ring. When she said yes, then he sang the next line of the song “Let’s get married!”
After a short break, White came back to the stage and told the audience, “It’s been such a great day, mind if we get married right now?”
A small group of people gathered onstage at that time, including members of White's band, White's mother, Teresa Gillis, and Jean's father, Brent Markel, as well as an officiant who quoted Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" intro, by declaring “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life.”
Olivia's father told the Detroit News that everything was a surprise and that he "had no idea" White would pop the question.
The newlyweds kissed and the concert continued after the quick ceremony.
“What a day!” God bless you Detroit, White said at the end of the show.
Not only was he engaged and married on the same day, but he also released his new album, Fear of the Dawn, performed the national anthem on the Detroit Tigers' opening day, and kicked off his Supply Chain Issues Tour.
It was White’s third marriage. The 42-year-old was married to model/singer Karen Elson previously and with whom he has two kids, they had married for 8 years and got divorced in 2013. He then married his White stripes Bandmate Meg White before her.
