Manchester United is set for a squad overhaul in what is being dubbed as the ‘ten Hag era’ with the Dutch manager Erik ten Hag taking control and looking to rebuild the team to avoid a repetition of last season’s disappointing performance

As such, the Red Devils are in direct talks with Spanish club Barcelona, for Frenkie de Jong. Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sports reported this, noting that the price tag is currently 85 million euros, and an opening bid hasn’t yet been made. The 25-year-old, who previously played at Ajax under ten Hag, remains fixed on staying at Barcelona and playing in the Champions League – something that wouldn’t be possible with a current move to United.

However, the Old Trafford side will need to bring in a midfielder and have their sights on the Dutch professional. United have announced that they’re parting ways with Frenchman Paul Pogba, who returned to the Premier League side from Juventus six years ago when he was signed again in a deal worth 100 million euros. Since then, the 29-year-old has had a lacklustre time on the English side, and will now be leaving once his contract expires in June.

A couple of other shakeups are also headed United’s way. Jesse Lingard will be leaving once his contract expires at the end of June. The 29-year-old has also been largely unimpressive at United but has had good spells when away on loan, playing for West Ham. Newcastle, Lingard’s boyhood club, had wanted to work out a loan agreement too, which fell apart over the terms of the deal.

Meanwhile, the club knows Diogo Dalot has a good chance of staying since he’s appreciated. Thus, they are certain of right-back picks, though Romano reports huge bids for the Portuguese could alter this situation. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as noted earlier, could leave this summer too, and the club is awaiting proposals.

Last season saw United finish in the sixth place on the PL table and have secured a Europa cup position.
