Pep Guardiola on Tuesday said that he cannot comment on Erling Haaland's move to Manchester City until 'it's completely done'. The Norway striker, one of the hottest property in the sport currently, is set to leave Borussia Dortmund to join the Etihad camp that is looking for Sergio Aguero's replacement.
City are tipped to secure Haaland's services for €60 million ($63 million) for a five-year contract. The 21-year-old comes to the Premier League, having scored 85 goals in 88 appearances for Dortmund since joining the Bundesliga giants in January 2020.
While there is no official confirmation yet, Man City manager Guardiola dropped a hint that Haaland will be joining Manchester City. Reports on Monday suggested that the Norway No 9 had undergone a medical after agreeing personal terms with the Premier League champions.
"Everybody knows the situation," said Guardiola. "I shouldn't talk because I don't like to talk about the future or next season. Borussia Dortmund and Man City told me I'm not allowed to say anything until it's completely done," Guardiola said at the press conference on the eve of his side's match against Wolves.
"I'd love to talk but they tell me don't say anything until (after) the legal actions. We'll have time to talk, not because I don't want to," he added.
Haaland represented RB Salzburg before joining Dortmund. His father Alf-Inge played for City from 2000 to 2003.
“I wish he was coming back home here to Leeds — this is his birthplace — but I understand the decision for him to go to Man City,” said Leeds manager Jesse Marsch, an American who coached Haaland when they were at Austrian team Salzburg.
“Credit to them for getting that done,” Marsch added. “I always wish the best for Erling, he is an incredible human being.”
