Losil Dikho of the Naga People’s Front has won the Mao assembly constituency by defeating an Independent candidate Woba Joram by a margin of 570 votes.

Mao assembly constituency has S. Alexander Maikho of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking on Losii Dikho of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) this year in the Manipur assembly elections.

Losii Dikho of the NPF had won the Mao seat in 2017 when the INC swept Manipur winning 28 of Manipur’s 60 assembly seats. Dikho had beaten his closest rival Woba Joram by over 15,414 votes. Joram had contested that election on a BJP ticket.

In 2012, the seat was won by Losii Dikho of the NPF.  

Mao falls under the Senapati district and the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of 28 assembly seats.

Lorho S. Pfoze of  Naga People’s Front represented Outer Manipur as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Pfoze defeated Houlim Shokhopao Mate from the BJP with a margin of  73,782 votes.

The Mao assembly constituency voted in the second phase of the Manipur elections on March 5, 2022, along with 21 other constituencies. 

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including Uttar Pradesh.
