Kylian Mbappe celebrated his contract renewal with Paris Saint-Germain by scoring a hat trick as the French champions finished their Ligue 1 season with a 5-0 win against Metz on Saturday.

PSG revealed Mbappe’s shocking U-turn in rejecting a move to Real Madrid in order to sign a new three-year contract in Paris only minutes before kickoff at the Parc des Princes.

Mbappe confirmed the merit of the decision within the first 30 minutes. The 23-year-old scored twice in the 24th and 28th minutes, the second assisted by Lionel Messi’s brilliant through ball.

By halftime, the score was 3-0, and there was even more reason to rejoice. Neymar scored his 100th goal for PSG after Angel di Maria set him up for a straightforward finish in his final game before departing on a free transfer this summer.

But it was Mbappe who stole the show. And, just five minutes into the second half, the man of the hour took advantage of a defensive blunder before rounding the keeper and completing his hat trick. The goal brought his league season total to 28 and secured him the Ligue 1 Golden Boot ahead of Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder.

All that remained to complete the perfect day was Di Maria’s dramatic farewell goal, which brought the Argentine to tears before getting a standing ovation and guard of honour as he was substituted for the final time.

The guests, on the other hand, had a quite different narrative. Metz was relegated to Ligue 2 along with Girondins de Bordeaux, who were demoted after 30 years in the top flight after a 4-2 win at Stade Brestois and finished bottom of the table.
