Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah provided an update on his contract situation with the Merseyside club on Friday, ahead of Sunday’s explosive clash with Manchester City that could decide the Premier League title.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Friday, the 29-year-old Egyptian said that his contract talks were “sensitive,” adding that Liverpool’s quest for more trophies this season was the only thing he was focusing on.

“I’ve said many times before that’s [to stay at Liverpool] what I want. But again I can’t really go deep in the contract right now because it’s a really sensitive situation. For the team to win I can’t just go on the news and talk about my contract. I just focus on the team and that’s it,” the Egyptian said.

“I can’t be selfish now and talk about my situation. We are in the most important period for the team so I have to just talk about the team, focus on what’s coming for the team and that’s the most important thing. That’s all I can say,” Salah said in a bid to put an end to speculation about his future.

“Hopefully we can be optimistic and see what’s going to happen,” the 29-year-old added, hinting that a renewal could be on the cards.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had earlier said that he was “happy” with how contract talks were progressing between the club and the Egyptian, but declined to provide any further details.

A contract renewal would be a massive boost for Liverpool in future seasons: since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017, the Egyptian forward has scored a whopping 153 goals in 241 games across all competitions, in addition to racking up 53 assists.

Although Salah will soon be 30, he doesn’t look like slowing down and could be invaluable to Liverpool in the years to come.

Barring a renewal, however, Salah’s contract will expire in June 2023.
