Delhi Police said that Lawrence Bishnoi has not confessed to the killing of Punjab singer and politician Sidhu Moose Wala, news agency ANI reported quoting unnamed sources. Conflicting reports about Bishnoi’s confession had emerged on Friday afternoon.

Bishnoi, 29, is known to have a vast criminal record and has multiple cases registered against him in Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab. A former student of DAV College, Punjab, Bishnoi started out as a student leader and joined the Student Organisation for Punjab University.

Goldy Brar, who first claimed responsibility for Moose Wala’s murder, is known to be a close associate of Bishnoi. Brar also posted his confession on Facebook and tagged Bishnoi.

Bishnoi has reportedly denied any involvement in the killing of Moose Wala, who was shot dead on May 29. ANI further reported that Bishnoi told Delhi Police that Moose Wala was “murdered for revenge.” Bishnoi is currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar jail.

Multiple media outlets quoted unnamed sources saying that Bishnoi confessed to his involvement in the killing. The reports claimed that Moose Wala’s killing was orchestrated to avenge the death of Akali Dal youth leader Vikramjit Singh (alias Vicky Middukhera).

The Delhi Police Special Cell, which is investigating the case, managed to get the custody of Bishnoi for three days after arresting him from Tihar in a case registered under the Arms Act, PTI reported citing unnamed officials.

Officers from the Delhi Police Special Cell are visiting Muzzafarnagar and Nepal to know more about reports of the attackers fleeing, ANI reported.

Bishnoi was connected to the murder of Moose Wala soon after the shooting as Punjab Police declared it to be a case of gang rivalry. Bishnoi then sought increased security in Tihar jail a day after the murder.

Bishnoi’s attorney filed a plea in New Delhi’s Patiala court that said, “The accused is a student political leader and due to political rivalry implicated into multiple false cases registered against him in Punjab and Chandigarh states and the accused is having apprehensions of a fake encounter by the Punjab Police.”

Moose Wala was in his car on May 29, 2022, when some unidentified assailants in Punjab’s Mansa district killed him. Autopsy reports suggest that the Punjab singer was shot 24 times.
