In an apparent case of murder-suicide, an off-duty officer with New York Police Department fatally shot a man before turning the gun on himself outside Buffalo Wild Wings in Walkill on Sunday night.

NYPD sources told local media that the cop, whose identity was not revealed, suspected the man of having an affair with his wife.

On Sunday night, he followed their vehicle and crashed into them. When the boyfriend got out of his vehicle and attempted to flee, the cop chased him down and shot him before turning the gun on himself. The incident took place on Route 211 in Walkill in Orange County around 10.40 pm.

Sources told NBC New York that the cop fired 16 rounds at the man. He got shot in the back and the head.

Gary DeYoung, a witness, was walking his pet dog when he heard the crash.

“Then one guy jumps out, comes over here and starts shooting away,” DeYoung told News 12.

“I was like, ‘Whoa.’ I called 911. By that time, there was two deceased on the ground here in the parking lot.”

Police are yet to make a statement on the incident. 

It was unclear if the cop’s wife suffered injuries in the incident.

“It happened outside,” a Buffalo Wild Wings manager told The New York Post. “The night manager told me she kept everyone inside and locked the doors. We closed early last night. I don’t even think they came in here.”
