The government of India has announced the list of Padma Awards recipients ahead of the 73rd Republic Day. These are the highest civilian awards conferred in the nation and are divided into three categories – the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. 

While the Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptionalism and distinguishment in service, the Padma Bhushan is given for distinguished service of a high order. The Padma Shri is awarded for distinguished service in any field. President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, will confer the awards at a ceremonial function at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. This year, the President has approved of 128 Padma Awards, among which there are two duo cases – where two awards are counted as one.

There are 4 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan, and 107 Padma Shri Awards. Of this year’s awardees, 34 are women, and 13 are receiving the award posthumously.

Padma Vibhushan 

The four awardees are Prabha Atre (Art), General Bipin Rawat (posthumous) in Civil Service, Radheyshyam Khemka (posthumous) in Literature and Education, and Kalyan Singh (posthumous) in Public Affairs.

Padma Bhushan  

The recipients for this award are Ghulam Nabi Azad and Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in Public Affairs, Rashid Khan in Art, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Victor Banerjee, Gurmeet Bawa (posthumous), Krishna Ella and Suchitra Ella, Satya Narayana Nadella, Cyrus Poonawalla in Trade and Industry, Sundararajan Pichai, Rajiv Mehrishi in Civil Services, Swami Sachidanand, Pratibha Ray, Vashishth Tripathi in Literature and Education, Madhur Jaffery in culinary and Sanjaya Rajaram in Science and Engineering.

Padma Shri 

Among the 107 awardees are Raghuvendra Tanwar, Vidya Vindu Singh, Badaplin War, Siddhalingaiah (Posthumous), Vidyanand Sarek, Dilip Shahani, Kali Pada Saren, Chirapat Prapandavidya, VL Nghaka, Rutger Kortenhorst, Tara Johar, P Narayana Kurup, Avadh Kishore Jadia, Shaibal Gupta (Posthumous), Girdhari Ram Ghonju (Posthumous), Narasingha Prasad Guru, Narasimha Rao Garikapati, Khali Dhantejvi (Posthumous), Dhaneswar Engti, Maria Christopher Byrski, Harmohinder Singh Bedi, Sirpi Balasubramanian, JK Bajaj, Akhone Asgar Ali Basharat, T Senka Ao and Najma Akhtar.

Also included in this list are Prahlad Rai Agarwala, Muktamani Devi, Ryuko Hira, Jagjit Singh Dardi, Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, Prabhaben Shah, Gamit Ramilaben Raysingbhai, Prem Singh, K V Rabiya, Om Prakash Gandhi, Basanti Devi, S Damodaran, Savaji Bhai Dholakia, Shakuntala Choudhary, Srimad Baba Balia, and Acharya Chandanaji.
