One firefighter has died after being trapped in a Philadelphia building that caught fire and collapsed early Saturday, officials confirmed.

The firefighter, a 27-year veteran, has not been identified yet. The building caught fire at around 2 AM on Saturday, Deputy Fire Commissioner Craig Murphy said. It had been put out, but then the building collapsed at 3:24 AM.

Murphy further added that five firefighters, including the one dead, and an inspector with the city’s Department of Licenses and Inspections, who had been rescued from the rubble, were stable at hospitals.

The Phiadelphia Fire Department had initially put out a photo. No signs of smoke or fire were visible in it. However, the a tweet said, “The fire response remains at 2-alarms.”

“You can’t predict this. This was just a catastrophic accident that has really hurt our department,” Murphy told reporters at a news conference.
