Following the woman’s affirmative response, the operator proceeded to ask additional questions to learn more about the situation on the bus. The police were able to determine the woman was at risk of being harmed by the man she was travelling on the bus with by asking ‘yes’ and ‘no’ questions.

The department used an online tracker to locate the bus after receiving the call, and a team was dispatched to the scene, where a 40-year-old man was later arrested.

The man was released with no further action, and the woman was given safeguarding and support services.

On their official Twitter account, North Yorkshire Police stated the incident.

They wrote: “When a call ‘to order pizza’ becomes an urgent plea for help. We received a 999 call – but when it was answered, the woman on the line said she would like to order a pizza. Our call handler immediately asked the woman if she was in trouble, to which she confirmed “yes”.
