Bollywood singer KK died of a suspected heart attack in Kolkata on Tuesday night, hours after performing at a concert in the city. He was 53. 

The singer was on a two-day tour to Kolkata. He performed at Nazrul Manch on Tuesday evening and was “feeling heavy” after reaching his hotel, officials said, PTI reported. He soon collapsed and was taken to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.  

“KK was brought to the hospital around 10 pm. It’s unfortunate that we could not treat him,” a senior official of the hospital told PTI. Doctors at the hospital said they suspected “cardiac arrest” to be the cause of the death. A post-mortem would be conducted on Wednesday to ascertain the exact reason for the death.

The 53-year-old, who is survived by his wife and two children, was supposed to return to New Delhi on Wednesday.

KK was a versatile singer who recorded songs in several Indian languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali. He has sung popular Hindi songs like ‘Ankhon Mein Teri’ (Om Shanti Om), ‘Zara Sa’ (Jannat), ‘Khuda Jaane’ (Bachna Ae Hasino) and ‘Tadap Tadap’ (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam).

According to Celeb Net Worth, the singer’s net worth was estimated to be around $8 million at the time of his death.

Singer Armaan Malik said the year 2022 has been a black year for Indian music.

“Extremely sad and devastated. Another shocking loss for all of us. Can’t believe our KK sir is no more… what is even happening. I can’t take it anymore,” he said.

“It seems so ominous. The news of KK’s death that too right after a live performance is terrible. He sang for films I was associated with, so his loss seems that much more personal. RIP #KrishnakumarKunnath.Prayers & condolences to his family,” actor Ajay Devgn wrote.
