Bollywood singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, died at the age of 53 on Tuesday. 

KK performed at a concert in Kolkata on Tuesday evening. He felt unwell after reaching his hotel and was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. 

The cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

KK family – 

KK was born into a Malayali family residing in Delhi on August 23, 1968. His parents were C S Menon and Kunnath Kanakavalli.

The singer married his childhood sweetheart Jyothy Krishna in 1991 after dating for several years. They have a son named Nakul Krishna and a daughter Taamara.

Nakul is also a singer, who sang the song “Masti” with KK in his album ‘Humsafar.’

Taamara, on the other hand, is a trained piano player.

KK was a versatile singer who recorded songs in HindiTamilTeluguKannadaMalayalamMarathi and Bengali, among other languages. He was greatly influenced by legendary musicians like Kishore Kumar,  RD Burman, and Michael Jackson.  

He made his debut as a playback vocalist in Kadir’s ‘Kadhal Desam’ with AR Rahman’s hit songs “Kalluri Saaley” and “Hello Dr.”

After singing in several south Indian movies, he got his big Bollywood break with ‘Tadap Tadap’, a song from the movie ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’. He went on to sing songs like like ‘Pal’ and ‘Yaaron’, which went on to become massive hits among teens.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the late singer.

“Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti,” he wrote on Twitter.
