BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that India will play Sri Lanka in a pink-ball Test in Bengaluru during the next pink-ball series.

So far, India has staged only two pink-ball matches, the first at Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the second at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The two-match Test series, which will form part of the ICC World Test Championship, will be held at Bengaluru and Mohali.

The BCCI will soon announce the locations for the Sri Lanka series, according to Ganguly.

“Yes, the pink-ball Test will be happening in Bengaluru. We have not decided on all the venues for the Sri Lanka series yet, but it will be announced shortly,” Ganguly told Sportstar.

After the white-ball series with the West Indies concludes on February 20 in Kolkata, India will host Sri Lanka for three Twenty20 Internationals and two Tests in late February and early March.

According to the current schedule, former captain Virat Kohli will play his 100th Test match in Bengaluru, where he has a large fan base thanks to his affiliation with the IPL side Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Under Kohli’s leadership, India has won both pink-ball Test matches at home. However, for the Sri Lanka Test series, there will be a new captain, after Kohli stepped down last month following a 1-2 series loss to South Africa.

Meanwhile, according to a report in The Times of India, Sri Lanka Cricket wants the BCCI to change the calendar and host the T20I series before the Test match to make it easier for players to transition from one bubble to the next.

Ganguly also announced that the women’s T20 Challenge will take place in May of this year. “The Women’s T20 Challenge will again be back this year in May. Hopefully, in the future, we will be able to host a bigger women’s IPL once the number of women players (player pool) goes up. But this year, the Women’s T20 Challenge will happen during the IPL playoffs.”
