Disney CEO Bob Chapek said during an earnings call on Wednesday that the next Star Wars Disney+ series, ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, will premiere on May 25, the Wednesday before Memorial Day weekend.

Ewan McGregor reprises his role as the younger Obi-Wan Kenobi in ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’. Darth Vader will most likely be played by Hayden Christensen again.

Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie are among the cast members. Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, McGregor, and Joby Harold serve as executive producers for the show.

‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ takes place ten years after the events of ‘Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith,’ in which Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi suffered his greatest defeat – the demise and corruption of his best friend and Jedi disciple, Anakin Skywalker, who became the wicked Sith Lord Darth Vader.

‘The Book of Boba Fett’, a Disney+ original series, had its Season 1 finale Wednesday.

Disney+ currently has 129.8 million global members, up 11.8 million from the previous quarter’s end and well ahead of Wall Street’s prediction of 125.4 million.

Chapek said on the earnings call that the studio isn’t counting on theatrical to develop a Disney franchise in the future. However, all of these huge plays, such as ‘Star Wars’, were created through the crucible of theatrical production. Chapek also mentioned the Oscar-nominated animated film ‘Encanto’, which had a theatrical release before going straight to Disney+.
