Hamanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Supernovas, flew to her left to gobble a one-handed stunner and dismiss a well-set Shafali Verma at the MCA Stadium, Pune on Tuesday. Chasing 151 runs, Velocity were 87/3 after 10.4 overs.
Shafali Verma scored the fastest half-century in the Women's T20 Challenge. The 18-year-old's fifty against the Supernovas came in 30 balls. She managed to hit nine boundaries and one maximum during her stay at the crease.
Batting on 51 runs, Verma slashed a short, outside off delivery by Deandra Dottin on the fourth ball of the 10th over. The ball was flying past short third, when Harmanpreet Kaur managed to grab it out of thin air.
Shafali Verma scored 51 off 33 balls.
Batting first, Harmanpreet Kaur top-scored for the Supernovas with a 51-ball 71. The India T20 captain smashed seven fours and three sixes during her stay at the crease, helping her side post 150 runs in 20 overs. Taniya Bhatia chipped in with an useful knock of 36 off 32 balls.
The Velocity opted to bowl after winning the toss and their bowlers appeared to have done a decent job before Harmanpreet's onslaught.
The duo of Kaur and Bhatia added invaluable 82 runs for the fourth wicket after their team was reeling at 18 for three in the fourth over.
Down the order, Sune Luss contributed an unbeaten 20 in 14 balls, hitting three fours in her breezy knock.
Among the Velocity bowlers, Kate Cross was the most successful with impressive figures of 2/24 in her quota of four overs, while Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav picked up a wicket apiece, the latter accounting for the important scalp of Harmanpreet.
The Supernovas came into the game after beating Smriti Mandhana's Trailblazers by 49 runs.
