The Boys,’ based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic books, will return for a third season on Prime Video on June 3, 2022.

In the trailer of season 3, Billy is given a version of compound V  by Queen Maeve in the hopes of defeating Homelander. Billy is shown using Compound V to cause havoc and mayhem with his laser eyes. The trailer also revealed that Butcher’s abilities are only temporary.

William “Billy” Butcher is a former royal marine with CIA connections. He is well-known for his brutality as well as his ability to manipulate others.

Billy played by Karl Urban assembles the titular crew in order to bring down any ‘Supes’ who abuse their powers.

His ultimate target is Homelander, a completely insane take on Superman, who actively defends his and Vought’s interests.

Butcher in the comics experiences the standard Compound-V effects: he becomes stronger, faster, and more durable, approaching the strength of Mother’s Milk.

Supe Butcher is introduced in the trailer, but the adaptation differs. To begin, he has only been seen using his yellow laser-eyes ability in the series, despite the fact that this is not a power he ever gained in the original comic.

Butcher’s strength, speed, and other abilities are unknown, though they are likely to improve as well. However, how powerful the show decides to make the temporarily superpowered Butcher in season 3 is subject to change.

The show has touched on his animosity with Homelander, but in the comics, it is darker: ultimately, Homelander — Vought’s top superhero — sexually assaulted Butcher’s wife, Becca, killing her.

Compound V may put Billy on an equal footing with The Seven leader Homelander played by Anthony Starr.

Season 2 of ‘The Boys’ ended with the tragic, unintentional death of Butcher’s wife, Becca, at the hands of her child, Ryan, after the couple had spent years in hiding due to Ryan being Homelander’s (Starr) son.

While the extent of Butcher and Ryan’s relationship in season 3 is unknown, Urban’s comments indicate that the pair is attempting to form a father-son bond.

Throughout his promotional run, Urban has teased a number of exciting ‘The Boys‘ season 3 storylines, previously discussing how Butcher’s new powers will force him to choose between becoming a superhero and a supervillain.
