‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ started off as a movie starring Matthew McConaughey as a lawyer who often operates in the grey, but retains a moral code. The series is based on the same character and became popular on Netflix. 

Now, the streaming service has greenlit it for a second season. The David E. Kelley drama, based on Michael Connelly’s story, will return for another instalment of ten episodes. The new season draws materials from the fourth book in Connelly’s Lincoln Lawyer series, titled ‘The Fifth Witness.’

The first season was based on the second book, ‘The Brass Verdict.’ The announcement of the new season came from Netflix head of global television Bela Bajaria, at the Banff World Media Festival.

As per the plot of the story, the second season will see Michael Haller, the lawyer, defend a longstanding client – Lisa Trammel, who’s suspected of murdering a wealthy man. Haller and his team get to work, focusing more on the victim’s association with organized crime.

However, in a final twist, the lawyer realizes that Trammel is guilty, and confronts her about the murder. She’s indifferent and seemingly gets away with it but calls a few weeks later asking Haller if he’s tipped off the cops about digging up her garden. She also asks him to represent her, when damning evidence is found, but the lawyer cuts off any association with her.

While Kelley returns as co-showrunner and executive producer, he’s expected to be less involved in Season 2, much like the case with the veteran producer’s ‘Big Sky’. 

Originally, ‘Lincoln Lawyer’ was developed for CBS in 2019. However, when the series moved to Netflix, they recast Manuel Garcia-Rulfo in the role of Mickey Haller. Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole and Angus Sampson return for the upcoming season.  

While Season 1 released on May 13, the release date for Season 2 remains unknown.
