Tom Cruise is all set for a game of football. And then there’s the jet fighter action.

The AFC Championship tease, which ran before the game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs, combined Cruise and footage from the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick. “The Time is Now,” read the title of the video.

The game, according to Cruise, is akin to the drive to be the best that it takes to be a top shooter. On May 27, Paramount will release the long-awaited sequel to 1986’s ‘Top Gun,’ which was released before both quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes were born.

However, the internet was not as excited as the channel or the franchises would want them to be. An unimpressed user wrote:

Another asked a genuine question, that is probably in everyone’s mind: “Why?”

One fan declared NFL as boring without megastar athlete Tom Brady, referencing speculations of him retiring.

Carrying the joke forward, one user made the mock announcement that Cruise would be replacing Brady in the league.
