US Vice President Kamala Harris‘ chief of staff, Tina Flournoy, is leaving the Biden-Harris administration and is set to be replaced by Lorraine Voles, a top advisor who previously served under senior US leaders.

Announcing the change, Vice President Harris put out a written statement praising her outgoing chief of staff, who took office on January 20, 2021.

“Tina has been a valued advisor and confidant to me and tremendous leader for the office,” Harris wrote.

“From day 1, she led our team during a historic first year as we made progress rebuilding our economy here at home and our alliances around the world. Tina is the consummate public servant and I will continue to rely on her advice, counsel and friendship,” she added.

US President Joe Biden‘s chief of staff Ron Klain also bid Flournoy farewell, saying, “Tina has been a critical member of the White House team since day one, working with the President and Vice President to make their partnership effective and help the administration deliver on critical priorities. Her experience, wisdom, and hard work have been instrumental to our success on many issues.”

The outgoing Flournoy will be replaced by Voles, who had previously served as Vice President Al Gore’s communications director, as well as and advisor to former Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Voles, a communications expert and a veteran Democrat operative, was hired by Harris last summer and has since served the Vice President in the capacity of a senior advisor.

However, Voles’ promotion and Flournoy’s departure a little over a year after taking office is likely to raise questions about the Vice President’s style of management, especially in light of the fact that her offices and campaigns have seen frequent changes of staff.
