Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dr. Usham Deben Singh has won the Wabagai assembly constituency by defeating Md. Fajur Rahim of Indian National Congress (INC) by a margin of just 50 votes. 

Wabagai assembly constituency has Dr. Usham Deben Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking on Md. Fajur Rahim of the Indian National Congress (INC) and Md. Sikander of the Janata Dal (United) this year in the Manipur assembly elections. 

Md. Fajur Rahim of the INC had won the Wabgai seat in 2017 when the INC swept Manipur winning 28 of Manipur’s 60 assembly seats. Rahim had beaten his closest rival Dr. Usham Deben Singh by over 4,761 votes. Singh had contested that election on a BJP ticket.

In 2012, the seat was won by Md. Fajur Rahim of the Congress. 

Wabagai falls under the Thoubal district and the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of 28 assembly seats.

Lorho S. Pfoze of Naga People’s Front represented Outer Manipur as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Pfoze defeated Houlim Shokhopao Mate from the BJP with a margin of  73,782 votes.

The Wabagai assembly constituency voted in the second phase of the Manipur elections on March 5, 2022, along with 21 other constituencies. 

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including Uttar Pradesh.
