Local and passenger videos that have gone viral show the jet descending after flames broke out. The residents can be heard yelling that the plane will undoubtedly crash. The footage captures smoke rising from the plane as it descends quickly.

Fortunately, the plane made a safe landing, and all of the passengers claimed to be safe.

“The Delhi-bound flight had returned to Patna airport after locals noticed a fire in the aircraft & informed district & airport officials. All 185 passengers safely deboarded. Reason is technical glitch, engineering team analysing further,” Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh stated, reported ANI.

Patna Airport Director also claimed, “SpiceJet flight from Patna to Delhi was reported to have fire in one engine. The flight landed safely, and all 183 passengers and two infants have deboarded safely.”

However, the DGCA stated that the flight returned following a “bird strike,” and that due to one engine shutting down in the air, all on-board travelers were safe.

The plane, a fully-fueled Boeing 737-800, set off from Patna airport about noon. It was due to arrive at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport around 1.30 p.m.

Because there is an open abattoir near the airport, bird strikes are regular.

The topic is discussed regularly with state government authorities in recent years, but no changes have been made, according to airline officials.

SpiceJet was fined Rs 10 lakh by the DGCA last month for instructing its Boeing 737 Max pilots on a malfunctioning simulator.
