‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 3 returns to Netflix and the trailer shows the gifted Hargreeves siblings meet their match in the rival Sparrow Academy. It also introduces a kugelblitz or mysterious black hole

The Sparrow Academy had earlier taken the place of the protagonists, during a time-travelling mission to save the world. Netflix’s official trailer, which dropped Thursday, shows the insanity that is expected in the upcoming season, with innumerable fight sequences, strange powers, and the kugelblitz.

This refers to a black hole caused by radiation, and one which threatens to swallow the whole universe.

Aidan Gallagher’s Number Five says in the trailer, “When we jumped here, we created a time paradox. Our little paradox brought forth a kugelblitz”, to which Viktor Hargeeves, played by Elliot Page, asks “What the hell is a kugelblitz?”

Number Five replies “Essentially, we’re screwed”.

Fans will also get to see the changes in Page’s character this season after Vanya becomes Viktor in the series, following Page coming out as transgender in 2020. In March, Page had announced that the character would also come out as trans on the show.

Viktor tells a member of the Sparrow Academy in the trailer, “Your team is good, but I don’t think you’re better than me”, adding, “I ended the world twice, and you? You’re just meat in spandex.”

The new season has ten episodes, each an hour-long, and introduces Javon Walton of ‘Euphoria‘ fame in an undisclosed part.

Season 2 showed the members of the academy saving the world in a different timeline, only to return to major changes at home. Netflix’s logline for the new season questions “Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?”

Season 3 of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ will stream on Netflix on June 22.
