Ukrainian defence forces on Thursday attacked and destroyed an entire column of Russian tanks near the capital city of Kyiv as the ongoing conflict entered its 15th day with no ceasefire in sight.

Videos of drone footage shared widely on social media showed a column of tanks near Brovary region in Kyiv Oblast getting ambushed by Ukrainian forces.

Explosions filled the street as Ukrainians targeted the Russian tank convoy that appeared to be stuck, possibly due to a blockade set up by the defending forces.

The audio of the recording also appeared to feature the voice of a Russian officer reporting heavy losses as the Ukrainians intensified their attacks on the convoy.

The attack on the stalled convoy is likely to be seen as a significant victory by Ukraine, especially in light of recent Russian advances.

Over the past five days, Russian forces managed to advance more than 80 kilometres on the northeastern front and have reportedly encircled Kyiv, along with other major and strategically important Ukrainian cities such as Odessa and Mariupol.

The city of Kherson has already fallen to Russian forces, who have also wrestled control of major nuclear facilities in the eastern European country, including Europe’s largest, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

On ground reports and footage have also revealed, quite alarmingly, brutal Russian attacks on civilians, and hundreds, perhaps thousands of civilians, have been killed since the invasion began on February 24.

While the West has responded with sanctions on Russia and the provision of military equipment, including anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles, to Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked for further assistance, especially in fighting the Russian air force.

Meanwhile, all efforts to negotiate a ceasefire, even a temporary one, have failed thus far, and it remains to be seen how long the conflict drags on before a solution is finally found.
