Yuzvendra Chahal is the current purple cap holder of IPL 2022. The Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner has picked 24 wickets in 13 games at an economy rate of 7.76 rpo. The 31-year-old has already taken a fifer and hattrick this season.

Chahal has dominated the white ball set up for some time. He is India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is with 68 scalps against his name in 54 games. He has an economy rate of 8.18 and a six-wicket haul in the format.

However, the leggie is yet to get his Test cap.

When asked if he would like to play Test cricket, Chahal told ESPNCricinfo,”Definitely I want to.”

“I have taken 50 wickets in my last 10 Ranji Trophy matches. Definitely, Test cricket is my first priority. I think being called a Test player has a different aura. A lot of players play ODIs and T20Is, but it is in Test cricket where your skills and patience gets tested,” he said.

However, he has not played a first class match since December 2018.

India are set to play a Test against England in June. They will then go against Bangladesh and Australia in the whites.

Recently, Chahal said that if the ball hits the stumps and the bails light up but don’t get dislodged, it should still be declared out.

“Since it was first time this happened with me, even I was shocked because the ball hit the wickets and the bails did not fall,” Chahal told ESPNcricnfo on Thursday. “If such a thing happens at a crucial time especially with a batsman like Warner, who does not offer too many chances… so if he had got out at that juncture then probably the match result could have been different,” the leg-spinner said.
