Bharatsinh Solanki, senior Gujarat Congress leader and former Union minister, announced a “short break” from politics.
"Elections are coming up at the end of 2022 but I am taking a break which could be for two months, three months, or even six months. This is my personal decision,” he said.
The announcement comes amid his troubled marriage. Earlier this week, a video of Solanki's estranged wife Reshma Patel entering a home and beating a woman seen with the minister, after accusing her of "snatching" her husband, went viral on social media.
"I have decided to take a break from active politics for few months and will focus on social activities. I will spend more time meeting Dalits, tribals, minorities and people from other backward communities during this period," he said at a press conference.

Solanki maintained that his decision to take a break from politics for some months was voluntary.
