Boye Mafe plays defensive end for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League in American football (NFL). The Seattle Seahawks selected Mafe in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the 40th overall pick.

Wale and Bola, Mafe’s parents, migrated to America from Nigeria. He was born in Golden Valley, Minnesota, on November 30, 1998. Mafe was born and raised nearby and went to Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota. He had four sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and 78 tackles as a senior, earning him All-Metro honours.

Mafe didn’t play during his actual freshman year at University of Minnesota. As a redshirt sophomore in 2018, participated in all 13 games as a reserve in 2019, and in 10 games as a reserve in 2018.He had 14 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks as a redshirt. In the team’s COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, Mafe played in six games and registered 27 tackles, 5.5 for loss, 4.5 sacks, two passes defended, and two forced fumbles. With 5.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks, he led the Gophers. Mafe led his club with 10 tackles for loss and seven sacks in 13 games with nine starts in 2021, earning a spot on the third team of the conference.   He was nominated honourable mention All-Big Ten Conference.

The Seattle Seahawks selected Mafe in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the 40th overall pick. He signed a four-year, $9.4 million contract with the team.

Mafe, whose full name is Adeboye and meaning “king meets with dignity,” is a native of Nigeria. On Mother’s Day 2018, his mother Bola passed away from pancreatic cancer. Dami, his older sibling, was a football player for Minnesota State-Mankato.
