Dwayne John Bravo is a former West Indies cricket captain and a Trinidadian cricketer. A real right-arm fast bowling all-rounder noted for his aggressive hitting in the lower order and the diversity of lengths he bowls in the last overs. He was considered as one of the top death bowlers in T20 cricket during his time.

Bravo has represented the West Indies in 40 Tests, 164 One Day Internationals, and 91 Twenty20 Internationals since 2004. He was a major player of the West Indies teams that won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2004, the ICC World Twenty20 in 2012, and the ICC World Twenty20 in 2016.

In the Indian Premier League, he played for the Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Lions, and Mumbai Indians. Bravo came out of retirement in December 2019 in preparation for the 2020 T20 World Cup, after previously declaring his retirement from international cricket in October 2018. Bravo reached 550 wickets in his T20 career on October 10, 2021, while playing for Chennai Super Kings against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League Qualifier 1.

Dwayne Bravo spent the first three seasons of his career with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. During the 2011 IPL Auctions, he was selected by the Chennai Super Kings. He was a standout performer for Chennai Super Kings in the 2012 IPL, amassing 461 runs at an average of 57 and a strike rate of 178.

He also did well for Chennai Super Kings in the 2013 IPL, collecting 32 wickets at an average of 9.15 to earn the Purple Cap and dethrone Albie Morkel as the team’s best wicket-taker. He suffered a shoulder injury in the opening match of the IPL 2014 against Kings XI Punjab and was later ruled out of the next matches. On May 3, 2015, he released his music single “Chalo Chalo” in Chennai.

He had a strong showing for Chennai Super Kings in the 2015 IPL, collecting 26 wickets and winning the purple cap for the second time. He is one of just two men who have won two purple caps. On the occasion of the IPL’s 10-year anniversary, he was also named to the Cricinfo IPL XI all-time team. Gujarat Lions acquired him when the Chennai Super Kings were suspended for two years. Later in the 2018 IPL season, he was re-signed by Chennai Super Kings for $64.0 million.

He was also retained by Chennai Super Kings in the 2019 IPL. He didn’t have a great year that year, but he impressed the fans with his precise bowling in the death overs. Bravo suffered a groin injury the next season while playing for Chennai, ruling him out of the tournament’s latter stages.

Dwayne was purchased by the Chennai Super Kings for Rs 4.40 crores in the 2022 IPL Auction.
