IAS Vineet Joshi, Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education, was appointed as new chairman of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) with effect from Monday, February 14, 2021. He replaces IAS Manoj Ahuja.

The Ministry of Education’s Department of School Education and Literacy , in an office order, made the announcement. 

Who is Vineet Joshi?

A 1992-batch IAS officer from Manipur, Vineet Joshi is currently working as an Additional secretary in Department of Higher Education and as per the official orders has been given charge as CBSE’s chairman.

Joshi is also the governing body member of National Testing Agency. He has a background of working in top education bodies. 

“Consequent upon relieving of Shri Manoj Ahuja, IAS(OR:1990) from the post of Chairman, CBSE w.e.f 14.02.2022 (A/N) vide office order dated 14.02.2022, the charge of Chairman, CBSE is assigned to Shri Vineet Joshi, Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education in addition to his existing assignments. This issues with the approval of the competent authority,” the official order iisued by Education ministry reads.

Manoj Ahuja was appointed as CBSE’s chairman on May 12, 2020. The 1990-batch IAS officer from Odisha had served as the Special Director, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. 

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has more than 25, 000 schools all across India and approximately 240 schools in 28 foriegn countries are affiliated to the board.
