Satya Pal Singh Baghel is an
Indian politician who currently serves as Minister of State in the Ministry of
Law and Justice in Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s second term. He was elected
to the 17th Lok Sabha from Uttar Pradesh‘s Agra as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was previously a member of the Samajwadi Party (SP),
through which he was elected to the Lok Sabha three times and to the Rajya
Sabha once as a member of the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP). 

Baghel was born in 1960 in Bhatpura, Umari, Etawah
district, Uttar Pradesh. He was born into the Gaderia clan. He is currently a
Lok Sabha member from Agra, which is reserved for scheduled castes. Ram’s
father was Rambhrose Singh, and Ram’s mother was Shree Devi. Baghel
married on November 30, 1989, and have two children.

Baghel holds a bachelor’s
degree in law, a master’s degree in science, and a doctorate. He attended Gwalior’s Maharaja Jiwaji Rao
University and Meerut’s Meerut University in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh,
respectively.

Baghel represented the Samajwadi Party in the Lok
Sabha three times from Jalesar, Uttar Pradesh, in 1998, 1999, and 2004. Baghel
was evicted from his party after three terms. He then unsuccessfully ran in two
Lok Sabha elections as a candidate for the BSP.

Baghel
was elected to the Rajya Sabha (Council of States) in 2014, but lost the
following election to the Bhartiya Janata Party candidate.

Baghel was elected president of the BJP OBC Morcha on
July 3, 2015. (the “Other Backward Class” wing of the Bharatiya
Janata Party). He was also nominated to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly
in 2017 as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On a BJP ticket, he
was elected to the Lok Sabha from Agra in 2019.
