Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, 36, is a BJP leader from Delhi‘s Sikh-dominated Hari Nagar neighbourhood, as well as the National Secretary of the BJP Youth Wing (BJYM).

According to his election affidavit, he did not finish high school but holds a diploma in National Development Course from China’s National Defence University.

Bagga began his political career with the Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena (BSKS), a lesser-known organisation that defined itself as a “task force against traitors, anti-nationals, and corrupt.”

In 2011, he gained fame after disrupting Arundhati Roy‘s book launch at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi.

In October 2011, he and his friends broke into the Supreme Court chambers of prominent counsel Prashant Bhushan and insulted him for his “radical” views on Kashmir.

Although eyewitnesses indicated otherwise, Bagga denied playing a role because he was not visible anywhere in the video that showed individuals hitting and slapping Bhushan and vandalising his office.

Realizing Bagga’s social media influence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited him to his official house in 2015 for an event called #super150, where he was joined by 149 other pro-right social media celebrities.

He was named the party’s spokesperson two years later in order to appeal to the young ahead of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections.

Bagga was accused of circulating doctored recordings during the Citizenship Amendment Act protests. He claimed that Muslim and Leftist students in Mumbai have again raised slogans “Hinduo se Aazadi.”

He justified himself in 2018, stating it was “a tribute to the army officer’s heroic act” when he sold T-shirts with the image of the contentious human shield event in Kashmir in which Major Leetul Gogoi had tied a person to a jeep.

Bagga has often targeted Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi chief minister and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The release of Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’ heightened their animosity. Bagga had slammed the Delhi chief minister using disparaging and offensive language, which he later removed from social media.

He remained unapologetic when an FIR was filed against him in the case.

Bagga was also a part of a BJYM protest outside Kejriwal’s official residence on March 30, during which the CM house’s gates were vandalised.

On May 6, 2022, Bagga was arrested by the Punjab police from his residence in West Delhi for allegedly threatening Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Bagga’s detention elicited furious reactions from the BJP, with members criticising the Delhi and Punjab Police and heaping contempt on the Aam Aadmi Party, which governs both Delhi and Punjab.
