South African middle-order batter Tristan Stubbs has replaced left-arm pacer Tymal Mills in the Mumbai Indians squad for the remainder of the IPL 2022 season.

Who is Tristan Stubbs?

Born on August 14, 2000, Tristan Stubbs made his debut for the national South African A Squad against Zimbabwe on May 2.

“The 21-year-old, talented middle-order batter, recently debuted for the national South African A Squad against Zimbabwe. Tristan has had a very promising domestic season and played an important role for his team in the recently concluded T20 domestic league,” MI said in a statement.

Stubbs is replacing Tymal Mills, who has been ruled out for the rest of the Tata IPL after sustaining an injury. Mills has played in five matches for the MI in the 15th season of IPL and taken six wickets in them.

Mumbai Indians have been struggling this season, losing 8 out of their first 9 matches.

Their head coach Mahela Jayawardene said the team is now at winning all their remaining matches.

“We just have to win matches, play as a group. It’s been tough, we are not satisfied with our execution but everyone stuck together and worked hard. We have stayed together and believed in our abilities, so it will be the same for the rest of the season. We have to make sure we win matches and enjoy our cricket,” he said on Thursday.

MI broke their losing streak defeating Rajasthan Royals by 5 wickets. Jayawardene said he was happy to see his players playing to their potential against RR.

“It was good to see that we managed to execute our skills and finish the last game off. We were able to cross the line – we have had those opportunities earlier in the season as well – and it was a positive outcome to get points on the board. Our focus has been good and looking forward to the next game, which is a tough one against an in-form team,” he said.
