Andrew Symonds, 46, was killed in a car accident, dealing another blow to Australian cricket.

Andrew Symonds was a former Australian cricket team all-rounder who won two World Cups. His aggressive batting, excellent fielding, and occasional spin/seam bowling had earned him a good spot on the Australian team.

Symonds made his international debut in a one-day international against Pakistan at Lahore in 1998. He was best known as a one-day international player who scored runs at a strike rate of 90 or above. During the 2003 World Cup, he solidified his spot in the national team as a specialist ODI player.

Because of his one-day performance, he made his Test debut against Sri Lanka exactly a year later, in 2004. Consistent form and the retirement of experienced Australian players resulted in his on-and-off recall to the squad, providing him with additional opportunities to establish himself.

Symonds joined the Deccan Chargers for the inaugural IPL season in 2008 and remained with the team till 2010. Despite missing the majority of the second season, he played a significant role in the team’s success at the conclusion. He joined the Mumbai Indians as a freshly acquired player in 2011, where he played for one season before retiring from all aspects of the game.

According to Cricket Australia chief Lachlan Henderson, Symonds was a “generational talent” and an “instrumental” component of Australia’s World Cup victory.

Symonds was a limited-overs force, scoring 5,088 runs at 39.75 and taking 133 wickets at 37.25 while also being an outstanding fielder.

He was previously labelled as a white ball player, but he eventually made Australia’s Test team in 2004, batting at 40.61 and making two centuries.

He was a well-known fisherman who was often seen on a boat. Symonds is survived by his wife Laura and two young children, Chloe and Billy.
