Kevin Durant has requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets as per AP reports, and teams have started scrambling together offers for the All-Star.

The news first came from ESPN which stated both the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat as being on the basketball pro’s wishlist of teams. Nets general manager Sean Marks is working with Durant and his business manager Rich Kleiman, to find a trade.

Durant’s move marks a significant moment in the NBA since it is rare for a player of his calibre to be moved in a deal. Furthermore, he’s signed a contract for four years that kicks this week, so whichever side acquires him can benefit from his skills through 2026.

However, ESPN has said that the Nets won’t trade Durant to his preferred destinations, but rather look for teams where trading him would financially benefit them the most.

Durant is an attractive option, nonetheless, and half the NBA teams have inquired what it’ll take to get him from the Nets, as per ESPN. Thus, apart from the unprecedented nature of the move, Durant’s trade will also likely see the Nets get a historic return on the deal.

News of his move comes amid a week of uncertainty among the Nets, which began when the friction with Kyrie Irving surfaced, with reports of his trade doing the rounds as well. The 30-year-old Irving was ultimately forced to opt-in on the last year of his contract, after being unable to find a suitable trade deal from among his list of prefered teams.

Durant and Irving both joined the Brooklyn Nets as free agents, and together played 58 games together, which includes playoffs, in their three seasons together. Now, their time at the Nets has presumably come to an end.

One individual noted on Twitter that Durant leaving the Golden State Warriors to prove he could lead his own team, only to ask for a trade from the Nets the same year the Warriors won the NBA, beating the Boston Celtics is “wild”. Durant’s trade news has the NBA world up in a storm, and in the coming days, it’ll become clearer which side lands the 33-year-old 12-time All-Star.
