Punjabi singer-rapper Sidhu Moose Wala‘s posthumous track ‘SYL’, which dropped on June 23, was recently removed by video streaming platform YouTube.

On Sunday, several fans headed to the music video to remember the late icon. However, they were left disappointed after a message popped up and stated that the track has been taken down due to a “legal complaint from the government.”

“Video unavailable. This content is not available on this country domain due to a legal complaint from the government,” the message read on the platform.

‘SYL’, titled after the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal, amassed more than 27 million views and 3.3 million likes on YouTube before it was removed. It tells the story of a united Punjab and the Sikh riots of 1984. The music video features the Sikh flag waving at Delhi’s Red Fort during the farmer protests of 2021.

The track also talks about Punjab’s water crisis and highlights the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal, which has been a disputed issue between Punjab and Haryana for several years.

‘SYL’ was composed by Sidhu Moose Wala before he was killed on May 29. Following his death, it was released by music producer MXRCI earlier this week.

Stalinveer, the video producer of ‘SYL’, told The Indian Express that Moose Wala was planning to drop the track on June 6, the eve of the 38th anniversary of Operation Blue Star.

“He was very excited about the song and was regularly discussing with me how to shoot video of the song. But the Almighty had different plans for him,” Stalinveer said.

Sidhu Moose Wala was killed by gunmen in broad daylight in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29, just a day after his security cover was withdrawn by the state police.
