Paul McCartney, the famed Beatles member who is also recognised for his solo career, is often referred to as Macca, and because people often wonder where the moniker originates from, he chose to reveal the story behind it.

As you may know, Paul McCartney is one of the most legendary rockstars in music history, having achieved worldwide acclaim as the Beatles’ co-lead vocalist and bassist. Furthermore, his songwriting collaboration with the band’s main vocalist, John Lennon, is still regarded as the most successful in history.

“‘Why is Paul McCartney nicknamed Macca?’” a question read.

“Cause I’m from Liverpool and they abbreviate everything in Liverpool. McCartney is a bit too formal, becomes ‘hey Macca‘ or George Harrison, ‘Hassa,’ or John Lennon becomes ‘Lenni.’ So, they just abbreviate everything, and that’s why. It’s a derivation of McCartney,” he explains.

Talking of his time with the band, “We were just like most young guys. We just wanted to have a girlfriend and basically do as much as we could, was the idea. So as we got fans, that became our motivation, which was, we were trying to be attractive in any way you like — visually, physically, sexually. We didn’t mind, as long as we were attractive, because as kids, we were apparently not very attractive and we certainly weren’t the big kind of quarterback who attracted all the girls in town,” he recalled in an interview with NPR, adding, “It was kind of the opposite for us, so I suppose, as we got more and more popular and the girls started screaming, to tell you the truth, we just enjoyed it. It was the fulfillment of all our dreams. … It really was just we young guys trying to get laid, as Americans would say.”
