Elon Musk is set to become the owner of social media giant Twitter but it is unclear if he will choose to sit in the driver’s seat too. Currently. India-origin Parag Agarwal is the CEO of the microblogging website.

Both Elon Musk and Twitter’s board of directors are yet to make a full statement on the takeover and give details about a possible change in management. But for now, it looks like Parag Agarwal will retain his position.

Parag Agarwal’s side

Statements from Twitter’s Board Chairman Bret Taylor have so far indicated that senior officials, including Parag Agarwal, will retain their designations for now. 

Soon after the board of directors agreed to Musk’s offer, Agarwal wrote in a social media post, “Twitter has a purpose and relevance that impacts the entire world. Deeply proud of our teams and inspired by the work that has never been more important.”

Elon Musk — the wealthiest person in the world– has often expressed his discontent with the management team of Twitter. He previously said that the current team has censored and undermined free speech and transparency. This may trigger a change in senior staff sometime in the future, however, no official statements have been made so far about immediate changes.

“Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it”, Musk said in his brief statement.

What is likely to change?

While the senior leadership may not be revamped, core policies of the social media platform will get a new framework, Musk said after the deal was announced.

“I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans”, Elon Musk said.
