With 2 wickets, Bumrah will become 1st India pacer to huge T20 landmark
- Jasprit Bumrah recorded his best T20 figures - 5/10 vs the Kolkata Knight Riders
- He now has 10 wickets in 11 games in IPL 2022
- Bumrah's T20 wicket tally stands at 248 in 204 matches
Jasprit Bumrah will come to the game against the Chennai Super Kings riding on his best T20 performance - a 5/10 vs the Kolkata Knight Riders. The Mumbai Indians take on MS Dhoni and co at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday.
Bumrah silenced all critics by claiming his first fifer in the IPL. Against KKR, the Mumbai Indians mainstay delivered plenty sharp bouncers, back-of-length balls and some on-the-stump deliveries mixed with slower ones. He managed to get rid of Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, Pat Cummins, Sheldon Jackson and Sunil Narine in four overs, one of which was a triple wicket maiden.
With the five-wicket haul, he now has 10 wickets in 11 games this season. He has bowled at an average of 25.40 and economy rate of 7.41 rpo.
Going against Chennai, Bumrah is on the cusp of a major T20 milestone. The 28-year-old, if he takes at least two wickets, can become the first Indian pacer to have 250 scalps against his name in the shortest format. He has 248 in 204 matches.
Only three Indian bowlers, all spinners, have picked more than 250 T20 wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin leads with 276 wickets, followed by Piyush Chawla on 270. Yuzvendra Chahal has 269 while Amit Mishra has picked up 262 wickets.
"Always a good feeling to contribute but the important thing is for the team to win. We had our chance to do that but couldn't get it done. That's the way it is. I don't keep track of figures or goals, my aim is to stick to the process. Sometimes you bowl well but don't get wickets. Can't get desperate. Just want to contribute in whatever way I can. Well, it's about rectifying our mistakes and doing better next season," he said after being named the player of the match," Bumrah had said after his fifer vs KKR.
Mumbai Indians ave already been eliminated in IPL 2022.
