Cristiano Ronaldo on Monday confirmed that his baby boy has died. The cause of death is unknown.

“It is with the deepest sadness that we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It’s the greatest pain any parents can feel,” Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez said in a statement. 

The Manchester United striker further added that he is devasted after the loss, further asking for some ‘privacy at this very difficult time’. 

“Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all the care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our boy, you are our angel. We will always love you,” the couple jointly signed the statement.

Reacting to the social media statement, Ronaldo’s Manchester United teammate Marcus Rashford said, “Thoughts are with you and Georgina brother ♥️ I’m so sorry.”

“Your pain is our pain, @Cristiano ?Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time,” Manchester United tweeted. 

Olympic champion Usain Bolt left a string of praying-hand emoji under the footballer’s heartbreaking announcement.

 “Heartbreaking news. My deepest condolences to you and all your family. ?” Piers Morgan, who is a friend of Ronaldo’s, commented.

 “Muita força, capitão,”Portugal’s national football team tweeted. It translates to: ‘A lot of strength, captain.’ 

Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake also said, “So sorry my friend.”
