Five years on from that incident, Laura is in a lifeless relationship with Marcin, a Polish man and visits Italy with him and her best friend Olga to celebrate her 29th birthday. While she is on her own exploring the streets of Italy, Massimo fortuitously sees and instantly recognises her as the girl on the beach from that fateful day five years back.

He kidnaps her immediately, making her a captive in his villa. There, Massimo informs her of his intention to keep her as his prisoner for 365 days, hoping that she shall fall in love with him in this time. He assures her that she shall be free to leave after this time, and will not be touched against her will.

Laura is obviously alarmed and panicky at this surprising turn of events and scorning him and his intentions at first, but she slowly starts to come into her own and gets brave in spite of her captivity. She even teases Massimo at times, before spurning his advances in order to play with, and push Massimo’s limits, although Massimo invariably has the last laugh anyway.

Eventually, Laura is successfully seduced and the two emphatically end up making up for all the lost time in Massimo’s super yacht. Their escapades end with Laura getting pregnant, which she reveals to her friend Olga quietly. Massimo and Laura decide to get married.

At the same time due to her association with Massimo, her life comes under threat from members of rival mafia clans. This culminates with attempts on her life at the end of both the first as well as the second movie. In the first movie, a pregnant Laura who has just gone shopping for her wedding dress is targeted by the mafia as she is being driven back to Massimo. In fact the two lovers are on call when the call suddenly goes blank, ominously.

While the audience doesn’t know her fate at the end of the movie, at the start of the second it is learnt that she survived the assassination attempt but lost her unborn child in the process. The two get married at the start of the 2nd movie.

In the second movie, Laura is shattered by the seeming infidelity of her husband when she sees him in a compromising position with Anna who was his ex-lover. This brings her close to Nacho, who is a gardener in Massimo’s estate. She later escapes with him to an island without Massimo being aware of where she is. She also starts feeling attracted to Nacho, even fantasising about the two of them in the most colourful of ways. But unbeknownst to her, Nacho is actually a member of a rival gang and she is later handed over to guards to keep watch on her. It also is found out later that the guy she found sleeping with Anna was not Massimo but his twin brother Adriano.

In the end, the story culminates with her being shot by Anna and she is seen cradled by her distraught husband, who has already shot dead Adriano, his twin, who was also part of the conspiracy.

We will soon know how Laura’s story ends, when Netflix puts out the third and final part of the trilogy titled The Next 365 Days on August 19, 2022.
