Jodie Whittaker, the 13th Doctor in the BBC’s long-running and enormously popular Doctor Who series, regenerated, revealing David Tennant, the 10th Doctor, as the 14th Doctor.

Tennant and Catherine Tate will reprise their roles for the show’s 60th anniversary, which will air in three special episodes in November 2023, according to the BBC.

Doctor Who has had an incredible 60-year run. Over the course of its existence in pop culture, the science-fiction franchise has thrived and continued to attract new fans. Fans have often debated which Doctor is the best, as the title role has changed several times.

Doctor Who has been around for a long time, so it never made sense for William Hartnell to keep going indefinitely, so allowing him to (canonically) change faces through regeneration was a brilliant idea.

Here’s a list of 5 best actors to play Doctor Who-

1) David Tennant

To many, David Tennant is the most recognisable Doctor of all time. He succeeded Christopher Eccleston back in 2006 and remained there for a while, earning the hearts of pretty much everyone who had ever seen the show.

He had some heartbreaking narratives and was tremendously humorous and creative. His farewell was broken up over four increasingly tragic special episodes since his part was so famous. We can only hope that he joins the show once more in the future.

2) Tom Baker

Essentially, the top two on this list depend on your age. Tom Baker will be chosen by everyone who watched the original Doctor Who as a child.

He had a big scarf on, was cheerful and amusing, and everyone adored him. He remained for seven seasons and most recently made a cameo appearance in the episode “The Day Of The Doctor” as The Curator.

3) Matt Smith

Even though the departure of Russel T. Davis from the programme coincided with a sharp decline in the quality of the writing and a significant dip in viewership, the introduction of Matt Smith was a brilliant way to move past the iconic David Tennant.

4) Christopher Eccleston

While many of the Doctor Who cast members seem to genuinely enjoy the programme and are eager to return to talk about it and attend conventions, Christopher Eccleston abandoned the series as soon as he quit after one season.

He created an intriguing mix between the character’s straight-laced, no-nonsense demeanour and sarcastic one-liners.

5) Patrick Troughton

It sounded like a great idea when William Hartnell insisted that his character change into Patrick Troughton.

While “in blackface and a turban” was one of his early suggestions for how to play The Doctor, he ultimately chose the much safer option of a comedic, almost Charlie Chaplin-style dramatisation.
