Neha Kakkar is undoubtedly one of the most popular playback singers of the current generation and her huge social media follower count is proof of that. Her songs have broken several records and in 2019, she became the second most-watched female artist on YouTube, leaving behind singers like Billie Ellish and Selena Gomez. However, not all her fans are aware that she is a self-made star. Here’s a look at her incredible journey from a small artist to a record-breaking playback singer.

Born in Uttarakhand on June 6, 1988, Neha did not receive any formal training in music. She learnt music all by herself and from her sister, famous playback singer Sonu Kakkar. At the age of 18, Neha participated in ‘Indian Idol 2‘. Though she did not win the reality show, she managed to win the hearts of the audience. In 2009, she made her singing debut in the Indian movie industry with ‘Blue’.

There was no looking back since. She went on to sing songs in several hit movies like ‘Cocktail’, ‘Queen’, ‘Dilwale’ and ‘Baar Baar Dekho’. Apart from lending her voice to actor, Neha has also judged singing reality shows such as ‘Indian Idol’ and ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs’. She has also performed at over 1000 live concerts worldwide.

Neha is now one of the highest-paid singers in India, reportedly earning 15 lakhs per song.
