With several states in India slowly opening cinema halls, several high-budget Bollywood movies that have been stuck in the pipeline due to the coronavirus pandemic are finally going to see the light of the day. Amongst them are Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and Ranveer Singh’s much-anticipated cricket drama ’83’, both of which will hit the big screens in the upcoming months. 

Laal Singh Chaddha‘, which was due to release on Christmas 2021, has been pushed and will now release in February 2022.

“Due to delays faced as a result of the pandemic, we will be unable to release our film, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, this Christmas. We will now be releasing ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ on Valentine’s Day 2022,” Aamir Khan Productions said in a statement.

The movie, which is an official remake of Tom Hanks’ 1994 feature ‘Forrest Gump’, is directed by Advait Chandan. It also features Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya in prominent roles.

Meanwhile, Cricket drama ’83’ is all set to hit the big screens in December. Directed by filmmaker Kabir Khan, the movie chronicles Indian cricket team’s first World Cup win in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev.

“It’s time. ’83’ in cinemas this Christmas. Releasing in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam,” Ranveer Singh, who plays Kapil Dev in the film, tweeted on Sunday. 

The movie also stars Hardy Sandhu, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiva, Saqib Saleem, Pankaj Tripathi and Deepika Padukone.

The announcements come a day after Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, said that “theatres and auditoriums in Maharashtra will open after 22nd October 2021 while observing all COVID safety protocols.”

Soon after CM Thackeray’s announcement, the makers of Akshay Kumar’s long-delayed cop drama ‘Sooryavanshi’ announced the the movie will finally hit the theatres on Diwali 2021.

“Thanks to our Honourable Chief Minister, Shri Uddhav Thackeray, theatres in Maharashtra to reopen from 22nd October. And FINALLY!!! we can say, This DIWALI…AA RAHI HAI POLICE…,” the movie’s director Rohit Shetty wrote on Instagram.
