The 93rd Academy Awards are scheduled to be held this Sunday. After a year of coronavirus pandemic, which replaced in-person ceremonies with actors on Zoom, the Oscars will finally see celebrities stepping out of their bubbles. But before you make any predictions about the winners, here are some facts to impress your friends on the movie industry’s biggest night.
Movie that won the most Oscars
This record is held by a trio of beloved epics: ‘Ben-Hur’ (1959), ‘Titanic’ (1997) and ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’ (2003), all of which won 11 trophies.

Movie that earned most nominations without winning any
Herbert Ross’ ‘The Turning Point’ (1977) and Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Color Purple’ (1985) unfortunately won no Oscars even after getting nominated in 11 categories.
Oscars’ Best Actor for most number of times
Daniel Day-Lewis has won the Oscar in Best Actor category three times. He won awards for ‘My Left Foot’ (1989), ‘There Will Be Blood’ (2007) and ‘Lincoln’ (2012).
Oscars’ Best Actress for most number of times
Katharine Hepburn won Best Actress four times for ‘Morning Glory’ (1933), ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner’ (1967), ‘The Lion in Winter’ (1968) and ‘On Golden Pond’ (1981). Meanwhile, Meryl Streep leads with 21 nominations in the category, including three wins.

Movie that won the first Best Animated Film Oscar
‘Shrek’ (2001) made history by winning the trophy. The category did not exist previously so it was an opening season for animated movies.
First African American actor to win an Oscar
Sidney Poitier made history as the first African American to win Best Actor for ‘Lilies of the Field’ (1963). It was not until Denzel Washington won Best Actor for ‘Training Day’(2001) that the feat was repeated.
Oscars’ Best Director for most number of times
John Ford has won Best Director four times for ‘The Informer’ (1935), ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ (1940), ‘How Green Was My Valley’ (1941) and ‘The Quiet Man’ (1952).
