The much-awaited seventh season of Karan Johar’s chat show ‘Koffee With Karan‘ finally premiered on Thursday and saw actors and ‘sakhis’ Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt spill some secrets about their respective personal and professional lives.

From Alia revealing how Ranbir Kapoor proposed to her to Ranveer talking about his equation with Deepika Padukone’s parents, a look at everything that was discussed on the first episode of the show –

1. How Alia and Ranbir’s love story began

Alia Bhatt opened up about how her love story with her hubby Ranbir Kapoor began.

“I was single after a very long time and so was Ranbir. Everyone around me, my sister and even my friends, everyone was like you are totally going to get together and I was like ‘okay’. Half wishing it, not full wishing it but I am like ‘let’s see’. I didn’t want to put too much energy into it. It should happen naturally. And it kind of happened naturally only,” she said.

Alia Bhatt recalled that they were on a plane to Tel Aviv to attend a workshop for their upcoming movie ‘Brahmastra’.

“We both were seated together so I remember him walking in and he was supposed to sit next to me. I was very excited and I was looking this way waiting for him to come sit next to me,” she said.

Unfortunately, there was some malfunction with the ‘Sanju’ actor’s seat and there  was a chance that he would have to sit somewhere else.

“I was like ‘Why is my dream getting shattered?’ But later his seat got fixed so he came and sat back.”

“That vibe started there only and of course, the rest is history,” she added.

2. How Ranbir proposed to Alia

The ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ actor revealed that Ranbir proposed to her at Kenya’s scenic Maasai Mara National Park.

“He totally blew my mind away, because I wasn’t expecting it. He didn’t tell anyone, he just carried the ring and he did it in the most amazing place because it’s a place we both have a strong connection with, Maasai Mara. And in the middle of the jungle. I don’t think I could have ever pictured the way it worked out together,” she said.

3. Alia’s diamond ring

Alia also revealed that their relationship philosophy is engraved in her ring.

“My diamond ring is extremely special, not because it’s a beautiful diamond but because it’s been engraved. It’s been engraved with our relationship philosophy, which is very close to my heart. And that is ‘Mrs Hipster’, each alphabet stands for something, that I won’t share,” she said.

4. Alia mixing with the Kapoor khandan

When asked about how she was adjusting to Ranbir’s family, Alia said it has been a different experience.

“I’ve been brought up with me, my mum, my sister, and my father. Even though we are a very close family, we are not a big family. Enter the Kapoor family where everybody does everything together. You eat together, you do aarti together. It’s like you do everything together. It’s cute. For me, in fact, Ranbir used to make fun of me. If we used to do a ritual together, he used to ask, ‘Jai karna aata hai?’ (Do you know the rituals?) I think I have become a pro now. I have been through so many moments of culture and family because of the Kapoor family. It has given me a totally new layer of life,” she said.

5. Ranveer’s special wardrobe for his Bengaluru visits

Ranveer, on the other hand, said he is still managing to mix with his wife Deepika Padukone’s family. The ‘Bajirao Mastaani’ actor further revealed that he has a special wardrobe for his Bengaluru visits and usually carries only white shirts/t-shirts and blue denim.

“I am still managing. I am still figuring it out. I have two wardrobes now. When I go to Bangalore, there is a special wardrobe –  white t-shirt and blue jeans. I don’t want to throw them off. I love them to bits, you know. They are so simple and grounded as people. It’s really wonderful and warm to be around them,” he said.

“We have been together for 10 years. Initially, they were completely thrown away, like, ‘Who is this, what is this?’ Especially Deepika’s mum. She didn’t know what to make of me. We took time to warm to each other, but now, she’s like my mum,” he added.

6. The idea by Salman Khan that changed Ranveer’s life

Ranveer also revealed that ‘super-convenient idea’ he got from Salman Khan, which is to sleep in the van to save travel time during shoots.

“I sleep in the van. Morning is not my fine time of the day. I am nocturnal, I am a night bird, I cannot sleep at night and I struggle to wake up in the morning. If I am like one hour away from the set then that one hour in the morning is just pure anxiety because I’ve woken up late. I would just rather just sleep in the van ’cause it’s like Salman Bhai’s style,” he said.

7. How Ranveer boosted Alia’s confidence

Alia revealed that she was nervous before the shoot of the song ‘Dholida’ from the movie ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and that Ranveer boosted her confidence.

“I was having a really tough time with it. So, he talked me through it. I remember he was on ad shoot. I remember crying in the car like, ‘Will I be able to do it?’ Cut to– I am about to do the shot and he walks in. And I was looking at him like that. ‘This is the bloody moment that I have to do this shot and now you’re here and the pressure is now on. But basically, he came in and he gave me that energy and it was really nice. When I see it (the final shot) I feel grateful that he pushed me to do that,” she revealed.
