Anti-Hero

The song Anti Hero, as Swift noted, explores anxieties about herself. Swift has said, “It’s me / Hi / I’m the problem, it’s me.” Anti-Hero is a collection of the late-night self-loathing set to music that is reminiscent of Swift’s 1989 and the songs of glossy 80s rock.

Snow on the Beach

This song from the album features Lana Del Rey. Rey is one of the most influential singer-songwriters of the era and Swift has also praised Rey on multiple occasions. Swift calls Snow On The Beach a “sort of cataclysmic, fated moment where you realize someone feels exactly the same way you feel at the same moment”.

The song is filled with rhetorical questions and hazy memories of her own life. There is also crowd applause on the track, which is credited to Rachel Antonoff and Dylan O’Brien. The song also upholds intriguing details of Swift’s life.

Labyrinth

This song describes the heartbreaks that happened in Swift’s life and her fears of falling in love again. She says, “only feels this raw right now, lost in the labyrinth of my mind”.

 Bejeweled

Bejeweled is a song about refusing to give in to early-thirties boredom and moving ahead with purpose. The tune of the synthesizers acts as a unifying element until exploding into sparklers over Swift’s melodies.

Karma

The song is a perfect combination of electroclash with elements of new wave, alt-pop, and 1990s techno. The song also gives a sweet hint to her movie-star boyfriend Joe Alwyn. Karma showcases Swift in her most playful mode on Midnights.
