The iconic X-Men series is one the most popular superhero film series out there. With every new installment raking in more money than it’s predecessor, X-Men has set high bars in terms of popular appeal and flexibility with changing times.

With the series dubbed to be integrated into  Marvel cinematic universe it is time to answer the most intriguing question related to it – The sequential order of films within the series irrespective of the date of release.

X-Men: First class (2011) : 

With the story majorly set in 1962, this James McAvoy starrer may truly be regarded as the earliest film within the series.

X-Men: Days of future past (2014) :

With much of the story having 1973 as the background, this features as the second in this list.

X-Men origins: Wolverine (2009) :

Originating in 1845 but continuing in 1979, the film explores the origins of Wolverine.

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) :

Starring Oscar Isaac as the titular hero, Apocalypse, the film is set in 1983 and thus 4th on the list.

X-Men: Dark phoenix (2019) :

Though it begins in 1975, it is considered fifth as the film in the main, occurs in 1992.

X-Men (2000) :

Being the first installment in the series, X-Men is still behind other films on this list as it covers events roughly of the date of it’s release – 2000.

X2: X-Men united (2003):

This is a sequence of X-Men is all senses, being also the film to be released immediately after X-Men in the series.

X-Men: The last stand (2006):

Being the third installment in the series, it is also the sequel to X2.

The Wolverine (2013) :

Starring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, the film starts with events set in 1945. But it is regarded as a sequel of sorts to The last stand.

Deadpool (2016) :

It roughly covers the times of it’s release, namely 2016.

Deadpool 2 (2018) :

It is a sequel to the Deadpool in both in terms of date of release and sequential order.

The new mutants (2020) : It is the 13th and final installment of the series and is a standalone film. 

Logan (2017) :

Though released in 2017, this may sequentially be considered the last film as it covers futuristic happenings, set in 2029.
